Franklin Plaza Wedding
Meaghan & Tim // Troy, New York
Meet the new Mr & Mrs. August! Meaghan and Tim celebrated their love at the historic Franklin Plaza in Troy, New York last year, and every moment of their wedding day felt absolutely iconic. They say “when you know, you know” and that was definitely the case for these two, who met at a bar one night and moved in together three months later. Within the year, he was proposing on the beach during a long weekend trip to Lake Placid. When I asked Meaghan what her favorite part of the wedding planning process was, she said that she enjoyed everything because it reminded her of how excited they were to start the rest of their lives together. I can’t wait to share all the beautiful details and moments from their Franklin Plaza wedding day.
Kind Words from Meaghan and Tim
I truly don’t have enough words to explain just how grateful I am that I was recommended to Lizzie. From the very first time we spoke to our engagement session, up to and after our wedding. Lizzie has been such an amazing person to work with. She is so talented with a camera but I really think her best quality is how comfortable she makes you feel in front of a camera. We just got our full album back after just over a month since our wedding and I am blown away by the images. I truly don’t know how I’m going to narrow down my favorites for an album let alone for my walls. Thank you so much Lizzie for EVERYTHING!
Getting Ready in Franklin Square
Meaghan and Tim got ready at the Best Western Franklin Square, directly across from their wedding venue. Together with their wedding parties, Meaghan and Tim got ready in separate suites across the hotel. Ample getting ready time was important so that nobody felt rushed (and Meaghan could enjoy a first look with her bridesmaid and her father before the ceremony). Everyone was ready early, so that we could take all of their wedding portraits (including ones with their family and wedding party) before the wedding ceremony was set to begin.
A few extra shots of Meaghan’s jewelry were an absolute must for her. She works at a jewelry store and I absolutely loved seeing what she chose. She looked absolutely stunning and her jewelry highlighted the shimmer of her Martina Liana Bridal wedding gown.
A First Look Outside Franklin Plaza
Having a first look was important to Meaghan and Tim, and I was so glad we created their wedding day timeline around these moments. Their reactions to one another were precious. We took their wedding portraits against the historic and beautiful architecture of the Franklin Plaza, as well as against the nearby brownstones and other nearby larger state buildings. There was no shortage of backdrops and I was living a photographer’s dream!
Capturing Candid Wedding Photos
Meaghan and Tim wanted to capture their true personalities in a more organic and candid way so although we did take some traditional posed wedding portraits, I captured as much of the in-between smiles and glances too. Tim was worried about feeling awkward in front of the camera (a common fear if you are feeling that way too!) but once we started snapping away he was able to get caught up in the moment and enjoy his bride (my super power, I think!).
Franklin Plaza Wedding Ceremony
Meaghan and Tim wanted the photos finished and to keep their wedding ceremony short and sweet so that they could fully and completely enjoy their cocktail hour and the rest of the evening with their guests. I love when my couples prioritize staying present and soaking up each moment. Despite being a shorter wedding ceremony, it was equally impactful. Witnessing the happiness on their faces was priceless and I felt beyond honored to capture it all.
Franklin Plaza Wedding Reception
Meaghan and Tim wanted their wedding to exclude a classic glam style, with white florals and champagne and gold accents everywhere. Meaghan wanted to look back on her wedding day 50 years from now and have no regrets. Beauty like this remains timeless. They chose the Franklin Plaza as their wedding venue for the ornate and original details (and awe-inspiring architecture). It was a perfect fit.
A Wedding Evening to Remember
Kicking off their wedding reception was their first dance to the song that Tim’s dad and grandma used to dance to together (What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong). It was sweet and so sentimental. Tim’s mother had passed away when he was three and his grandmother helped raise him for almost his entire life. Tim’s father had unfortunately also passed away during his early adulthood years, and the song made him feel close to both of them on their wedding day. Although tragic that they couldn’t be celebrating with them, Tim always says that he had “a village of people who raised him” which he is so grateful for. I could tear up just reliving this sweet moment and everything it meant to them.
One last detail deserves it’s own special mention. Towards the end of the evening, Meaghan and Tim cut into their clean white wedding cake. After that was over, Meaghan surprised him with a groom’s cake reading “Marry like a Champion today”. It was the perfect bookend to their wedding details and such a darling moment to capture at the end of the day. Congratulations Meaghan & Tim! It was such a joy celebrating you!
